Prior to the implementation of this project, village residents had to rely on oil lamps to light each house at night. These lamps produced fumes, which irritated their eyes, especially among children. Now, each home is able to have light at night that does not have adverse affect on them. Currently, other villages are requesting similar projects for their communities.
Micro-Hydro Electric Projects: Villages in Nooristan currently lack electrical power. Based on needs assessed, Nooristan Foundation has completed three micro-hydro electric projects (10KW-25KW) in the villages of Gezeen, Pacha and Ameesh in western Nooristan to provide electricity for lighting purposes at night. These projects were community based in which the community was provided the materials, such as generators, turbines, wires and transportation and the community contributed by building the water channels and maintaining the facilities.
